As your grow older, or even as a school kid, some of you were sent to hostels. Hostel life is basically, life away from home with your peers. You live on your own and learn to take of yourself. As kids, the idea of living withour your family is quite haunting , but as you grow up you need to move away and live independently to grow as a person and come to terms with the harsh reality of life. Most kids go to hostel when they move into college, and as much as pain as you think living on your own in a hostel can be, I assure you 3 times more fun and you might realize that only when you move into one. Freedom, independence, liberty… call it what you want ! Hostel life is described the best by each of these words. You learn to live by yourself, take care of yourself without a mother fussing over making sure you reach to college on time or that you eat your food on time, no grandparents to pamper you with extra love and affection, and fulfill your greedy needs. You are asked to make your own choices and decisions in life, wise or not. You become your own master.
All this freedom needs to be channeled the right way, meaning to benefit yourself. Your mom is showering you with love and cooking all your favourite dishes, your Dad is more than delighted to take you to the best place in town to eat, play or may be the movies . All the general restrictions at home and curfew timing are relaxed. Vacation time is an absolute party.

Your parents resolve their trust issues with you, and send you a big, fat allowance to cover all your expenses to ensure you live a comfortable life, even when you are away from them. All this because they just love you too much. Here’s the thing, more often than not, you are in a new city when you live in a hostel. Implying there are new places to explore: pretty places to sight-see, places to trek and what not. 2. Your roommate is your BFF
More often than not, your roommate turns into your BFF. Quite obviously because you spend most of your time with him/her, and in the 4 or 5 years of your undergrad you end up sharing your room and more. You know everything about each other, right from favourite restaurants, brands , sleeping and eating habits to stories of life and love-lives. You get used to the weirdness of the other person, and probably fights become a daily ordeal, and most of all you would’ve seen each other through the best and worst of times and been there for each other.
